The GH 5 Breakdown

Only the people who have talked to me in person know this, but I wholly believe that World Tour was pretty much it for the Guitar Hero franchise. As the following setlist, which is the full list for GH:5’s on disc songs, leaves a lot to be desired. Honestly, you may not know a few songs on Rock Band’s normal disc offerings, but at least they register after you’ve heard them.  Hit the break for the full track list and Rock Band crossovers, as well as my thoughts.

**NOTE: Any words after a song’s title represents the availablitly of the song in the Rock Band franchise. RB:U marked songs will be available eventually as RB songs**

Highlights: “What I Got”, an actual White Stripes Song, Queen finally in a music game and a pretty kickin’ Rush song.

Low points: What the hell are half these songs? And seriously, they lead off the first announcement with “Sex on Fire” by Kings of Leon? REALLY!? Geez… may as well burn their pressers down now..

Anyway, I do believe that they have added a few cool things into the mix. My favorite being the Jukebox style Party Mode that lets you jump in and out of songs, as well as listen to them with no players. That needs to be a standard feature in all music games. Lips wins for first implementation of it though.

Also, I’ve always kind of enjoyed the more realistic interpretation of the Guitar Hero series, and it’s better character creation (Weight sliders that work FTW!), but innovate more. Give me a reason to do it, because even though you have more variance, everyone looks like a crazy emaciated version of themselves. Just fix that?

Also, I do want to see a music studio. That was my favorite part of World Tour, regardless of the utter crap I made with it. (Don’t bother searching—I didn’t upload anything) That should be the real next step for Guitar Hero. Stop trying to be Rock Band. You failed at that. Go back to being a Guitar game.

Now, as far as how to fix it, going back to a Guitar-only game would be great for them. They should really do Lead, Rhythm and Base, all at the same time, because that hasn’t been done before. Well, at least not very well, and according to forums, they want it. So do it! Also, be more mainstream! Please? It doesn’t hurt, but listening to your most vocal fans who have nothing else to do but sulk in their parent’s basements and lament how there’s not enough metal in your game on your forums is not the best marketing move. Anyway, I’m done.

I was surprised to see Rammstein on it, though that's cool. I like a lot of them, to be honest. I do still fall back to RB mainly, just for more variance and the DLC is more consistant.

I wonder if it's the record companies though that are dictating what is released, and by releasing the song on one, the crossover comes later like limited patenting in other markets. Would explain some of the excessive crossover on some.
